Confucious Day
Today is national Confucious Day. Confucious was born in China on October 18, 551 B.C., Confucius is one of the earliest, and perhaps the the first great philosopher. He was also a teacher, a scholar, and a politician.
I kinda doubt that he authored these proverbs, but I thought they were pretty funny. Have a great Monday!
Confucius Says ... Chinese Proverbs
Man who run in front of car get tired.
Man who eat many prunes get good run for money.
Man who run behind car get exhausted.
Man with hand in pocket feel cocky all day.
Foolish man give wife grand piano, wise man give wife upright organ.
Man who walk through airport turnstile sideways going to Bangkok.
Man with one chopstick go hungry.
Man who scratch ass should not bite fingernails.
Baseball is wrong: man with four balls cannot walk.
Panties not best thing on earth! but next to best thing on earth.
War does not determine who is right, war determine who is left.
Wife who put husband in doghouse soon find him in cat house.
Man who fight with wife all day get no piece at night.
It take many nails to build crib, but one screw to fill it.
Man who drive like hell, bound to get there.
Man who stand on toilet is high on pot.
Man who live in glass house should change clothes in basement.
Man who fish in other man's well often catch crabs.
Man who fart in church sit in own pew.
Crowded elevator smell different to midget.

True Blood
Well, like I've said, I'm not a TV person, although I watch some shows on DVD (I have been known to watch 5 entire seasons of 24 within 6 weeks lol). I don't even have cable anymore. TV annoys me with all the stupid advertising and propaganda - it's like if you don't buy "X" item, you are a good-for-nothing slug and shouldn't even show your face in public lol.
My wonderful BF does have cable, however, and just about every channel on the planet. Not that he is a couch potato by any means, he just can't live without ESPN. He's the kind of person that is always doing something while the TV is on. We caught the first episode of True Blood on HBO by accident recently, and now I'm totally hooked on that show. He's so sweet, though, and he's recording them for me on his DVR, so I can see it when I go to his place :) I couldn't ask for a sweeter BF than Mark :)

What is it about vampires that is just so darn HOT?!

Twilight
Vampires have always interested me. I loved the movie Lost Boys from the 80's - Keifer Sutherland was such a bad vampire. Gotta love him. Of course, who can forget Interview With A Vampire with Brad Pitt? Wow.
So, with all the hubbub about the Twilight books, I just had to read at least the first one, and I finished it last night. It's a love story about a high school girl who falls for a schoolmate who is a vampire. I'm telling you, this book is as hot as it gets for a story with no actual sex in it lol. However, the book is a teenage romance and targeted to the 13-18 year old girl demographic group. It was kinda like when I read Harry Potter. I thought it was a good story, but still a kid's book. What kept me interested in Twilight to finish it so quickly? The dreamy vampire Edward Cullen, who the girl falls in love with. Man, that guy could melt an iceberg at 300 paces!!!

Did I think the book was juvenile, trivial, naive and a bit trite? Hell yeah. Am I going to read the next book in the series? HELL YEAH. :)

Shiver Me Timbers!
Ahoy! Today is National Talk Like A Pirate Day! :) Do you know why the pirate went to the movie? ... because the movie was rated "Aarrrr". Hey, I didn't make that one up. It was on an episode of Frasier.
I found out that my pirate name would be Pirate Gertrude the Off-White. Gertrude? If you want to see what your pirate name would be, go here.
Of course, we can't leave out the sexiest pirate ever:

Arrr, so ye be wantin' t' go to sea an' ye don't be wantin' t' end up in Davy Jones' Locker. Then ye best be learnin' t' be talkin' like a buccaneer. Have a safe tide this weekend :)

Kevin's New Car
Kevin has been drooling over Jettas for a while... well, any car that runs, really lol. He wanted a Jetta because the trunk is big enough for his full-stack amp and guitar stuff... priorities. We got him this one yesterday :)

The HUGE black car is his 1977 Grand Marquee that does not run and never did run for more than a few hours at a time. It is going to get donated to Habitat for Humanity this week. Kevin measured that car, and it is 19 feet long... I'll be glad when it's out of my driveway!!

Fake Palm Trees
There are a lot of cell phone towers here that have been disguised (or at least, a disguise was attempted) as palm trees. They don't really look like palm trees, though. Did you ever watch Sesame Street when you were a kid? Remember that song "One of these things is not like the other - one of these things just doesn't belong..." These fake trees kinda bother me LOL.

Just a couple cool pics I took on the way home from work-

I wonder if there really is a pot of gold at the end?

Happy Wednesday!

Women Over 40
My very best friend, Sarah, sent this to me. I thought it was pretty funny!!!
It's a modified version of a piece written by Frank Kaiser.
As I grow in age, I value women over 40 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why:
A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night and ask, 'What are you thinking?' She doesn't care what you think.
If a woman over 40 doesn't want to watch the game, she doesn't sit around whining about it. She does something she wants to do, and it's usually more interesting.
Women over 40 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won't hesitate to shoot you if they think they can get away with it.
Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved.
They know what it's like to be unappreciated.
Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over 40.
Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 40 is far sexier than her younger counterpart.
Older women are forthright and honest. They'll tell you right off if you are a jerk, if you are acting like one. You don't ever have to wonder where you stand with her.
Yes, we praise women over 40 for a multitude of reasons.
Unfortunately, it's not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed, hot woman over 40, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year old waitress. Ladies, I apologize.
For all those men who say, 'Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?', here's an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage. Why? Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage!
Have a great day :)

Some New Stuff
Last night I tooled around in my sewing room, and here are a few things I made. The postcards are fabric that I quilted and did some applique on... one has a bit of angelina fibers. I ordered some of the angelina fibers recently to see what all the hubbub was about - it is so cool!! The fibers come in different colors and are really shiny. When ironed, they stick to each other, but nothing else. Very cool for adding accents or making a new sheet of glimmery fabric.
Angelina fibers and applique quilted-

Applique and quilting-

Here's a little monster I made from fleece and felt. He cracks me up! I think I'll name him Moko... moko is spanish for "booger" but I think it sounds cute. I don't think he will mind :p

Monday Blahs
Why is it so hard to get up to go to work on Mondays??!! When the alarm goes off, my mind automatically goes through all the excuses I could use to call in sick/dead/kidnapped... but then, I realize I should be thankful that I DID wake up, and that I have a job to go to... human nature I guess :)
I'm glad I did get up this morning, however... the sky was beautiful! I took these as I was driving, left-handed hahahaha and I managed not to get into a car accident. How's that for coordinated lol.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Toyota Prius. I had to take a photo of the awesome gas mileage I got today - 59.7mpg :)

OK, one more photo... this is where I'd rather be right now - cuddled up with Pugsley in a quilt!

Have a great day!

Ick!
I loved all the webs at the park. My wonderful BF, Mark, made fun of me saying I was like "National Geographic" with all the photos I took. There were just so many beautiful things to see there, and I'm still learning the ins and outs of my camera, so it was a good learning opportunity for me. I took a couple hundred pictures that day :)
This spider was pretty creepy, though. He's right in the middle, you might have to look closely to see him.

Just A Few Photos
Here are a few photos I took over the weekend at the Boyce Thomspon Arboretum State Park. The park was established in 1920 as a center for plant research. It is so beautiful and peaceful there! It was kinda cloudy, though, so the mountain pics didn't come out as good as I'd hoped.

The Holidays Are Right Around The Corner!
It is hard to believe that it is September already! I can't wait for fall to come and for the weather to cool down. Winter is my favorite time of year. It is so nice here in Arizona in December!
Here are a couple of holiday dolls I made recently -

I need to get movin' and start on some Christmas presents, too! Pugsley is already writing his letter to Santa, telling him how good he's been all year. The little pug-bug isn't demanding by any means, but I did read one paragraph that said he would greatly appreciate getting a few new toys if the elves had a few extra minutes to make him some :)

My best little buddy in the whole world! I was lucky to find Pugsley after his
owner passed away. He spent a week with the wonderful folks at
My other little buddy - Brewski came from Petsmart. I think he's pretty happy
with us :)
Chester is really Kevin's kitty. He came from the Humane Society 13 years go
to live with us. He's a pretty good kitty :)
