Thanksgiving Day

How was your Thanksgiving? I hope it was great and that everyone enjoyed themselves! I don't have any Thanksgiving pictures to share, unfortunately... I caught strep throat last week and then some kind of cold on top of that, so I looked like the walking dead... ever see the video Thriller? Yeah, that was me, but without the cool dance moves. Anyone taking pictures of me would have been beaten severely with a pool noodle. My wonderful Mark helped a lot with the cooking and so did my mom. After dinner, we all crashed on the sofas and at some point feel asleep - HA! How is that for exciting??!!

I've been sleeping pretty much nonstop for the past 2 days, but I think I'm getting better now. I need to head over to Joann's and take advantage of their sale this weekend :)

Hopefully, I will make a few Christmas things today and take pictures to share. I'd love to hear what you guys are up to this weekend!

Oh, and I guess I got "tagged"... not really sure how that works, but here goes -

Seven quirks/facts about me:

1. People that hit their teeth with their metal utensils while eating make me want to climb the walls and scream!!! I also can't stand having my teeth picked at by the dentist... I've been known to leave fingernail marks in the armrests.

2. I have an obsession with long toenails. I can't stand them on me or anyone else.

3. I am extremely ticklish but hate being tickled.

4. I played the piano for my church, weddings and other religious events when I was a teenager... sometimes over 1000 people attended these events.

5. I could live very happily on chocolate and crab legs.

6. My hair used to be almost down to my knees.

7. I have been told that I'm "so cool, I'm like a guy in a woman's body." hahahaha

There - consider yourself tagged and leave a comment so we can read about your quirks!

So I just have to write about the final episode of True Blood this week. I am so hooked on that show, which is rare for me. I detest 99% of what is on TV. I was a little worried because Sookie started turning into a real "beeyatch", but she came through in the end :) That's all I can say without giving anything away, in case you haven't seen it yet lol.

I found this article about who would make a better vampire boyfriend - Edward Cullen from Twilight or Bill Compton from True Blood... well, I vote for Bill! hahahaha

Read the article here.

Here are a few of the comparisons between the two:

What Are His Interests?

Edward: He likes to brood, wow people with his beauty, run through the forest, drive fast and play baseball.

Bill: He enjoys entertaining guests, playing video games, visiting the local bars and reminiscing about his days in the Civil War.

Where Will He Take You On a Date?

Edward: He might take you to a nice Italian restaurant for some mushroom ravioli, but since he doesn't eat food it could make you feel a little awkward.

Bill: He'll probably invite you to his mansion to play some Wii, or maybe out to Fangtasia, the nearby vampire bar.

How's the Sex?

Edward: He worries about killing humans with his massive strength, so sex is off limits.

Bill: He can control his strength, so you can have all the hot sex you desire. However, you may end up with some nasty bite marks.

'Nuff said. lol

Turkey Day

Are you guys all ready for Thanksgiving? I thought I'd run into the grocery store last night and get a few last-minute things... yeah right... everyone else had the same idea, too. Oh well :) At least people were smiling, well most of them. There were some grumpy people. I try to "accidentally" hit those people with my cart hahaha.

I was thinking of all the things I have to be thankful for... my family, the fact that I still have a job, my wonderful BF, Mark, that I am so lucky to have... then I started thinking of our troops and how sad they must be to be so far away from their families. I signed up to adopt a trooper and send them a care package at A Solider's Wishlist. You can send them a box of goodies for a flat rate if you get a priority APO box from the Post Office. My soldier is a lady and I found most of her wishlist items... but for the life of me, I can't find ranch flavored sunflower seeds. Where in the heck do you find those?? I might have to send her an extra bag of M&Ms instead :)

Anyways... if you have a little extra time and money this holiday season, I think it's a great idea to send a little something to a soldier. No matter what our personal opinions may be about the war, they are there to protect us and serve our country.

And for your Thanksgiving:
May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have never a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

Twilight and TSO

Man, it was packed for Twilight on Friday night. I think there were only 5 people in the whole theatre that were over 30 lol. The movie followed the book pretty closely, and the girls screamed when Edward appeared on screen. I heard my BF Mark mutter "O my Gawd" under his breath a few times lol. He is such a good sport. The whole story is pretty mushy... what do you expect for a teen romance? hahaha

I'm a big fan of True Blood on HBO, and I have to say that Bill Compton is a much much sexier vampire than Edward Cullen. Please don't hate me for saying that hahaha.

Tonight Mark and I are going to see the Trans Siberian Orchestra - YEAH BABY!!!!! WOOHOOO! I think Mark will like this better than Twilight hahaha.

I hope you guys are all doing well and that you have all your Thanksgiving food shopping done! Have a great day!

Happy (late) Birthday, Mickey!

November 18 (yesterday), was Mickey Mouse’s 80th birthday. The comical activities of squeaky-voiced Mickey Mouse first appeared in 1928, on the screen of the Colony Theatre in New York City.

He looks pretty good for 80, doesn't he? I wonder if he does Botox...

I Can Hardly Wait!

Ooooo I am SO there on Friday! My awesome BF, Mark, said he would go with me lol. He is just so sweet to me :) I am very lucky to have him.

Keep Your Brain Cells

Wow. I ran across this interesting fact today and just had to share. I better get my butt moving - I need all the brain cells I can get! No wonder that lately, I've been roaming around the house... by the time I walk to where I was going, I forgot why I headed that way lol.

Did you know that the average person has more than 100 billion brain cells at age 35, but from then on we lose them at a rate of 7,000 a day? You can help keep your mind sharp by exercising. Working out feeds oxygen and glucose to your neurons, which is your brain’s main source of fuel. Exercise also helps prevent your brain from shrinking with age.

Fleece Stocking and Machine Embroidery

Christmas is coming up fast! Are you guys getting ready and doing all your Christmas sewing yet? I always plan on doing a bizillion things, and then I only get part of my list done lol. Oh well, I guess the people who do receive handmade things from me should appreciate the fact that they were at the top of the list hahaha.

I found a great tutorial on making fleece stockings, with some tips on how to machine embroider on fleece so that the stitches don't get lost in the fluffiness. Click here for the complete post and pattern.

Pugsley and his Lamb Chop

When Pugsley is really, really happy, he likes to get his favorite toy, Lamb Chop, and walk all over the house with it. He grabs the toy by the butt and walks in and out of every room, then Pugsley stops every now and then to look at me.

P1010340

Eventually he gets tired and takes Lamb Chop over to his bed.

P1010339

Chester finds the whole thing ridiculous and would rather nap on his blankie.

P1010333

These furry kids sure do keep me entertained :)

Yay! I finally did it!

So, I've written before about how much I adore those little crochet things called amigurumis... and how I totally stunk at crochet. Well, after lots and lots of practice, I finally made one - successfully, that is lol. I did manage to make some pretty strange looking things before this little guy came about... everything from "Swamp Thing" to genetically mutated bears to things that resembled lop-sided phallic symbols.

Now you understand why I am totally doing the happy dance over here :)

He is a safety cone - isn't he cute? If you want the pattern, click here.

America the Illiterate

My friend, Sarah, sent me a link to this article that I found very fascinating. It talks about how most Americans just want to be entertained, and that because of this, our culture is being reduced to a very simplistic and uneducated society - one that can be easily controlled.

Here is a snip:

The Princeton Review analyzed the transcripts of the Gore-Bush debates, the Clinton-Bush-Perot debates of 1992, the Kennedy-Nixon debates of 1960 and the Lincoln-Douglas debates of 1858. It reviewed these transcripts using a standard vocabulary test that indicates the minimum educational standard needed for a reader to grasp the text. During the 2000 debates George W. Bush spoke at a sixth-grade level (6.7) and Al Gore at a seventh-grade level (7.6). In the 1992 debates Bill Clinton spoke at a seventh-grade level (7.6), while George H.W. Bush spoke at a sixth-grade level (6.8), as did H. Ross Perot (6.3). In the debates between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon the candidates spoke in language used by 10th-graders. In the debates of Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas the scores were respectively 11.2 and 12.0. In short, today’s political rhetoric is designed to be comprehensible to a 10-year-old child or an adult with a sixth-grade reading level. It is fitted to this level of comprehension because most Americans speak, think and are entertained at this level. This is why serious film and theater and other serious artistic expression, as well as newspapers and books, are being pushed to the margins of American society. Voltaire was the most famous man of the 18th century. Today the most famous “person” is Mickey Mouse.

Something to definitely think about.

President Obama

Man, I know everyone has their own opinions about who should be president, but I have to say I'm so glad that Obama won. I love his ideas, his charisma, his candor... I hope that the next 4 years will be completely different than the past 8. We need PEACE. NO MORE WAR.

As Obama said, "ENOUGH".

Happy Gunpowder/Guy Fawkes' Day

So this morning, I'm looking at my cute pug calendar that hangs by my desk, and it says today is Guy Fawkes' Day... never heard of the dude, so I googled it. Seems it's a pretty significant day in England:

In 1603, King James I took the throne in England. An avid Protestant, he began persecuting Catholics in the country. He forbid Catholics from practicing their religion ,and punished Catholics who did not convert to the Protestant church.

The Gunpowder Conspirators were a group of Catholics who sought to take action against the king. They plotted to blow up the British Houses of Parliament. They planned to do so, when the king and his supporters were in the buildings. Their plot was uncovered on November 5, 1605. Thirty six barrels of gunpowder were found in the basement of Parliament. Guy Fawkes, the leader of the conspiracy, was arrested and tortured until he confessed. He was arrested just as he was about to ignite the gunpowder.

So, is the celebration in support of the rebellion against the king and persecution, or does it support the fact that they were discovered before they could blow the place up?

Anyways... seems they celebrate the day in England with fireworks and bonfires. Cool!

Have a great day!!!!

Happy Election Day!

Election Day is finally here! If you haven't done so already (and you live in the U.S.) PLEASE make sure you get out and vote!!! It's one of our freedoms that many have given their lives for... and for those of us that are female, we should keep in mind the feminists who fought for us to be able to vote, also. Don't be left out!
